Cosmonautics Day at SSTU – commemoration of the fist human space flight.

On April 8, SSTU hosted the ceremony dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first human space flight: students laid a time capsule in which they left the message to the future generation.

SSTU students wrote the message to descendants in 2071 Diana Smirnova, the representative of the student council, read the text of it. The rector of the university Oleg Afonin and Diana Smirnova laid the "time capsule", which is to be opened in 50 years.

Oleg Afonin said: «The capsule that we are laying for 50 years is a message to our descendants. When they open it, they will be able to compare their achievements with our expectations. this is a conversation with future generations of scientists and students. I am sure that in 50 years the technical university will achieve even greater success in science and education. I have no doubt that today's and future students will be worthy of the name of Yuri Gagarin».

Yuri Gagarin studied at the Saratov Industrial Technical School (now – SSTU Professional Training College) from 1951 to 1955 On April 12, 1961, after a historic flight into space, he landed on the field between the villages Uzmorye and Smelovka, Saratov Region.
