International students of SSTU represent the university at the Russia–Africa International Forum
International students from the Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov took part in the 6th International Youth Forum ‘Russia–Africa: Nuclear Education as a Driver for the Region’s Successful Development’.
The forum was organised by Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Friendship of Peoples with the support of the Rosatom State Corporation and the participation of the corporation’s leading and partner universities.
Representing SSTU at the international event were first-year master’s students of Ecology and Environmental Management programme of the Institute of Urban Planning, Architecture and Construction - Ogunon Sojin, Kuchoro Jima Rishad and Avokpe Koffi Josué. The students took part in the Ecology section, where they presented scientific, educational and research projects and discussed topical issues of environmental safety and sustainable development with representatives from various countries.
The research papers were prepared under the guidance of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technology and Biotechnology, Professor Elena Tikhomirova and Department lecturer Alina Degteva.
The forum traditionally brought together representatives of international organisations, diplomatic missions of African states in the Russian Federation, government bodies, the academic community, business organisations and civil society organisations from Russia and African countries.
The event programme included thematic sections dedicated to the energy and non-energy applications of nuclear technologies: ‘Nuclear Reactors’, ‘Radiation Safety’, ‘Agrotechnologies’, ‘Ecology’, ‘Nuclear Medicine’, ‘Geology and Mining’, ‘Industrial Partnership’, as well as areas related to youth initiatives and the contribution of graduates to regional development.
Participation in the forum enabled international SSTU students to present the results of their research, receive expert advice from specialists in the field and establish professional contacts within the international academic community.
