In-person Stage of All-Russian Student Ecology Olympiad with International Participation Concludes

The in-person stage of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Ecology with International Participation was held on February 18–19, 2026, bringing together talented students from universities in Saratov and partner universities in Kazakhstan.

The main goal was to identify strong candidates for admission to the Master’s degree programme at Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov (SSTU) in the field of Ecology and Technosphere Safety under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The participants demonstrated deep knowledge in the areas of sustainable development, environmental protection, and modern environmental technologies.

Second-year master’s students Aida Azhigaliyeva (Republic of Kazakhstan) and Amer Adam Elbaz Mohamed Mahmoud (Egypt) of the Institute of Urban Planning, Architecture and Construction made presentations to participants at the SSTU site. They shared their successful experiences in participating in the Olympiad and studying in the master’s programme. Their stories inspired the participants to strive for new achievements.

The in-person stage of the Olympiad continued with the participation of students from SSTU’s partner universities at the SSTU Resource Centre in Kazakhstan: KAZUITS, West Kazakhstan Innovative-Technological University and Zhangir Khan West Kazakhstan Agrarian-Technical University. The Saratov delegation was led by Professor Elena Tikhomirova, Head of the Department of Ecology and Technosphere Safety and Alina Degteva, a lecturer of the department. The experts highly praised the level of training demonstrated by the competitors.

‘This Olympiad is a striking example of the fruitful partnership between SSTU and leading universities in Kazakhstan. We are delighted to see such interest in our master’s programme and are confident that the winners will contribute to solving global environmental challenges’, said Professor Elena Tikhomirova.

Final results and awards ceremony will take place after 28 February.
